SUMMARY:December 2026 TIG Meeting - Barbara Tien - Gathering a Family or Community Around a Shared Historic Timeline
LOCATION:Zoom
DESCRIPTION:December 2026 TIG Meeting - Barbara Tien - Gathering a Family or Community Around a Shared Historic Timeline\n\n12/08/26 07:00 PM EST\n - 12/08/26 09:00 PM EST\Description:\nThe December 2026 TIG Meeting will feature Barbara Tien with a presentation called Gathering a Family or Community Around a Shared Historic Timeline. \n\nFrom the printing press to the introduction of photography, genealogy has always been among the first fields to leverage new technologies. Today, as we’re exploring with DNA analysis, online databases, and AI tools, a new golden age in family history storytelling has emerged. These new tools appeared just as a wave of young Boomers and older GenXers age into retirement. They’re resetting expectations for what family history storytelling can—and should—be. This talk will inspire family archivists to take the next step into storytelling. It balances modern sensibilities for creativity, media, and sharing with the inherited wisdom of genealogists in areas like privacy, archiving, and platform independence. \Details:\nDuring a 35-year career in product development and marketing for technology startups, Barbara has delivered hundreds of live talks to groups of all sizes. Today, she is the ringleader at Projectkin, a community of family historians hooked on stories. The group promotes creative storytelling through workshops, events, and programs that engage future generations with their ancestors’ stories. Barbara leads the community, drawing on her experience as a co-founder of the photo storytelling startup Ponga.com. She launched Projectkin to provide Ponga members a platform-independent offramp for their family stories as she and her co-founders took the platform offline. Since its founding in 2023, Projectkin has grown to over 1,500 members, supported by patrons from across the country and around the world. Community members motivate each other through participation in virtual events, project ideas, and discussions. \Location:\nZoom\n\n,
