May Meeting Presentation- "Build A Better Family Tree with Brick and Mortar Research"

Have you researched a family business or your ancestor’s occupation? Examining the “professional” life is an overlooked but promising avenue for research. When we assess our ancestor’s friends, neighbors, and acquaintances (cluster research), we often leave out the business side of life. Still, businesses leave records that may be available at local or state libraries or societies. This lecture covers resources you may be familiar with but from a different perspective and introduces some new ones to add to your genealogical toolbox

About the Speaker: Michelle owns RomaMaryGrace, and is a historian and professional genealogist specializing in family business research, material culture, pandemics, and the National Register of Historic Places. She loves traveling, researching, and collecting old things. She has co-authored more than 50 nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. Her genealogical clients include the television series Who Do You Think You Are? and Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.
